Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 invasion in host cells via interaction with host's angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptors affects downstream pathways including renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system and systemic inflammation, causing cardiovascular complications including hypercoagulability, myocardial damage, and subsequently heart failure. These complications are worsened in some individuals due to arrhythmia as side effects of coronavirus disease of 2019 drugs such as hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
