“You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can't get them across, your idea won't get you anywhere.”
The Journal of Practice of Cardiovascular Sciences has a mandate to spread the messages of cardiovascular sciences all over India. In pursuit of this goal, an outreach program was organized on March 07, 2017 at the Galgotias University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, in the afternoon. This was attended by mainly the students of nursing, pharmacy, and forensic sciences.
The outreach program was designed as an interactive session between the budding students in the various medical fields and the experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The program was started with the felicitation of all the guests including Dr. Sandeep Seth, Professor, Cardiology, AIIMS, and Chief Editor of Journal of Practice of Cardiovascular Sciences, Dr. S. K. Maulik, Professor of Pharmacology, AIIMS, and Dr. Kamlesh Sharma, Lecturer, Nursing College, AIIMS, by Professor Bimal K. Sarkar and Professor Ashia Qureshi from Galgotias University.
The first lecture topic was on Sudden Cardiac Death by Dr. Sandeep Seth. He initiated the lecture with basic knowledge talking about physiology, etiology, and the treatment approach. It also comprised various case discussions.
The next lecture was on Clinical Research and Regulatory Issue delivered by Dr. S. K. Maulik. He discussed various clinical and regulatory issues relating to drugs and their therapeutic uses. This lecture was a summary of every possible aspect of drug-related issues.
The lecture was followed by Introduction to Heart Failure by Professor Dr. Sandeep Seth. It comprised basic morphology of the heart and its mechanism and physiology and its significance in treatment. The topic ended with Heart Failure Case discussions.
The final set of lectures was taken by the Dr. Kamlesh Sharma, Lecturer, College of Nursing, AIIMS. The lecture gave a brief information about the importance of nursing staff in the management of patients with heart failure. Miss Mamta, an M. Sc. nursing student, described the latest management techniques in heart failure, i.e., telemonitoring using a special smartphone app: Dharkan app (Android app) and Hriday Card (a checklist). These two are supposed to bring a new era in the management of heart failure patients. The last talk was delivered by Miss Ankita, an M. Sc. nursing student, on patient discharge counseling and she emphasized the role of counseling and how it can work wonders in the recovery of the patient.
After completion of all the lectures, there was a small cultural program by the students of Galgotias University [Figure 1], [Figure 2], [Figure 3].
The program concluded with a token of thanks to the speakers by the Dr. Prashant Agarwal division in charge of forensic science.
